The Issues

Here’s a synopsis of where I stand on key issues in Yorba Linda. For a more detailed view, click here to view the Contract with Yorba Linda. Feel free to e-mail me at Ed@Ed4yl.com or call (714)577-0671 to discuss these and other issues and ideas you may have.

Growth & Future Development

Yorba Linda is blessed with an outstanding quality of life, which in a large part is a result of our “low-density” character. Low-density means lower crime, traffic and congestion. I pledge to carefully examine all residential and commercial development decisions with a strong adherence to our current “low-density” zoning and General Plan.

  Crime, Traffic & Congestion

I will work closely with our contracted police department and our Traffic Commission, as well as properly manage our City’s growth, to keep crime, traffic and congestion in check. I will advance an agenda, which promotes the highest level of security and public safety within Yorba Linda and I will be responsive to our residents and their driving needs and concerns.

  Yorba Linda Town Center

As one of the community leaders who helped stop the overdevelopment of our downtown by the previous City Council, I can assure you that I will work hard to develop our Town Center in a manner that is consistent with the “low-density” character of our City. We should heed the recommendations of the Town Center Blue Ribbon Committee and move forward with development in a fiscally responsible manner.

  Eminent Domain

I strongly oppose the use of eminent domain for economic development. Private property and businesses should not be taken from their owners and handed over to another private interest. I fully support Measure BB on the November 4 ballot, which prohibits the use of eminent domain for economic gain throughout all of Yorba Linda. Vote YES on Measure BB.

  Fiscal Responsibility

We are all keeping a tighter rein on our pocketbooks in these turbulent economic times. The same should apply to City government, because after all, it’s your money that’s being spent. I pledge to maintain current spending levels and I will work to reduce costs wherever possible. This isn’t a convenient political promise, because my actions speak for themselves. I actively and publicly opposed the City’s proposed landscape & lighting increase and the 11% annual increase to the City Manager’s salary and benefits, which reached an outrageous $301,000.

  Open & Ethical City Government

I believe in and fully support open, transparent and ethical City government. The People’s business should be conducted in public and all meetings should be “open” to the public. I will NOT participate in “back room deals.”

I pledge to move forward with the following:
An “open” government ordinance to prohibit any and all closed
session and / or private ad hoc or other such committee meetings, to the extent they are not mandated “closed” by State law.
An ethics ordinance that will help eliminate conflicts of interest with
    City contractors and developers.
A thorough review of the failed Town Center Plan process that
occurred with the previous City Council.
An ordinance to prohibit the City Council and City employees from
attempting to frustrate the citizens’ free exercise of the initiative, referendum and recall processes.

Cultural Arts, Equestrian & Athletic Facilities

Our family oriented community deserves facilities families can enjoy. Politicians have been talking the past 10 years about cultural arts, equestrian and athletic facilities. It’s time to stop talking and start doing.

I will move forward by identifying appropriate locations and exploring the economic feasibility of a public / private development and operating partnerships for both a cultural arts and an equestrian facility. I will also work to expand our athletic facilities through “joint use” agreements with the School District and other private entities, as well as completing City parks projects that are well within our current budget.
